Public Safety Office

Calhoun County has 8 different non paid volunteer fire depts., and 1 paid on call dept. which is located in the City of Blountstown.  Our Departments respond to all types of hazards including fires, vehicle accidents, Hazardous Materials events, and all natural and man-made disasters within our county. Countywide these departments respond to approximately 500 calls annually; they also provide medical first responders in rural areas in the county where response times are lengthy due to location.   Many of our firefighters are trained at a state level.  Local EMS trains first responders on a regular basis during a 40 hour course.  If you are interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter in your area please contact your local fire dept. or the Emergency Management office.

Calhoun EMS is stationed in the city limits of Blountstown.  The ambulance service is operated by Calhoun –Liberty hospital.  The service provides two ALS transport trucks 24/7 with the ability to call in more if needed.  They serve over 14000 citizens and provide mutual aid to surrounding counties. Each year the service runs approximately 3,500 calls. EMS does inter facility transfers for a higher level of care and also provide a limited non-emergency transport service to the county.
